Performer, Choreographer & Coach
First Australasian Samba Queen, 2016
Kirstie's dancing journey began at the age of 4 when her Mum enrolled her in her very first Jazz Ballet class (much to her dismay at the time). From here, Kirstie would perform her dance productions in her bedroom until she was a teenager and finally enrolled in a Hip Hop class. Over the next 10 years, Kirstie spent most of her time training in various styles including Dancehall, Waacking & Vogueing, House, Krump, Polynesian, Belly dance and eventually finding her true love, Brazilian Samba.
She has performed interstate and internationally for numerous Latin festivals, charity events, competitions, weddings, corporate events and more.
In 2015, Kirstie travelled to Rio de Janeiro where she immersed herself in the Brazilian culture for over a month, training and performing at local events with her Brazilian coach, Ana Arruda and participating on a float in Carnaval with the champion samba school, Estacio de Sa.
In July 2015, Kirstie won the Semi-Pro Samba Soloist division at the Australian Latin Dance Championships which qualified her to compete at the World Latin Championships held in Miami. In July 2016, Kirstie competed again in the Professional division as a Samba soloist and place second. Then, in August 2016, Kirstie competed in the first Australasian Samba Queen Competition where the winner would be flown to Rio de Janeiro for the World Samba Congress and qualify for the International Samba Queen Competition, the first of its kind and the closest experience to the traditional Carnival Queen competition in Rio. She won the title and is the first Australasian Samba Queen in history.
Today, Kirstie's love for Samba and Brazilian culture only continues to grow and she expresses her fiery passion in all of her classes and in every performance.
