Katya started dancing and performing when she was 3 years old being classically trained in Ballet. Through the years, Katya has trained in many styles including from Contemporary to Ballroom, Latin and Urban.
She attended a ballet school in Russia for many years, which to this day remains the strictest and most intense training that she has ever undergone.
From here, Katya went on to train in Latin and Ballroom, then back to Contemporary, stopping at the final destination of Brazilian Samba.
After trialling different styles of Latin dance, wanting to find her passion and challenge, she finally enrolled at Subsdance and tried Brazilian Samba to later become successful in joining the Glamourosas.
"The way they teach…it’s not just the technique or the steps…but the culture of it. You get the chance to embrace it on all the levels and be immersed in the experience. This is the way any dance should be taught and experienced!
Dancing Samba woke something up inside of me, a little fire that only keeps getting bigger and stronger the more I dance".
Katya's most loved aspect of Samba are the drums.
"When I hear those drums I instantly light up and can’t help but move. Whether it is at Carnaval or in the streets or clubs of Brazil, or parading here in Australia, or performing on stage…I just love that I get to express through this beautiful dance. I love Brazil! And I am so lucky to be able to learn and spread the love and joy of samba dance and culture".
