Bec was led into the latin dance world though language – she studied Spanish for four years at university, then began dancing at age 25 as she was going to live in Mexico for 6 months and wanted to be able to salsa!
Bec continued her latin dance journey when she returned to Australia, continuing salsa lessons and also learning other styles, such as Bachata, Zouk and Cha Cha. She was a very active social dancer for a number of years, even meeting her now husband on the social dance floor.
Bec had been wanting to try samba for a while – she had seen Brazilian girls social dancing samba in a Brazilian club in Mexico, and loved the way they moved. Her husband suggested she try a new dance school that his dance partner was about to open, and the rest is history! Bec has been dancing Brazilian Samba with Subsdance since it opened in 2010.
Bec has been lucky enough to have many amazing samba experiences, performing locally, interstate and internationally. But nothing quite beats dancing at Canberra’s National Multicultural Festival – the vibrancy, the crowds, the energy all make an uplifting and unforgettable experience.
