Director of Glamourosas and Subsdance Dance Studio, Kate Ticehurst has over 20 years experience as a dancer, teacher, choreographer and performer. Being one of the first influencers to shape the Brazilian Samba scene in Canberra, Kate is regularly asked to judge, teach and perform in Canberra, interstate and internationally.
Starting her dance career in Modern Jazz at age 6, Kate has gone on to acquire many years experience teaching adults in over 15 different dance styles including Ballroom/Latin, South American and Brazilian dance. Kate’s knowledge of the culture behind Brazilian styles and what she shares with her students is what sets her classes at Subsdance aside from the rest. Kate’s students learn quickly and have vast knowledge of the movements and their origin so much so that her students are often asked if they are Brazilian.
With countless trainings, performances , workshops, lessons, competitions under her belt she is a Samba and Afro Brazilian culture devotee and will continue to respectfully teach the culture of Brazilian Dance to Canberran’s and light up your events with Brazilian samba, for years to come.

Kirstie is the Head Samba Coach & Instructor at Subsdance Dance Studio in Canberra.
Having over 10 years dance experience in various styles including Hip Hop, Waacking, Dancehall, Brazilian Samba, Burlesque, Show girl and more, Kirstie has expansive knowledge in stage presence, choreography & world culture.
At 16 years old, Kirstie’s dance training began in Hip Hop where, after living in Sydney for 2 years and exploring multiple street styles, she was lead to her first love of Dancehall. From here, she was invited to perform in the renowned showcase night, Carnival in Sydney in 2010 and competed with her crew in Hip Hop competitions such as Battlegrounds. After returning home to Canberra in 2011, she was discovered by the Director of Subsdance Dance Studio and was asked to join the professional Samba team, Glamourosas after just one Samba class.
For the next 5 years Kirstie would perform at events such as annual latin dance festivals nationwide, LJ Hooker Awards Ball in Sydney in 2014, numerous weddings & corporate events, international shows in Brazil & the annual National Multicultural Festival in Canberra.
She has competed in several competitions since 2014 including World Salsa Solo in Brisbane, 2014, Australian Latin Dance Championships in 2015 (first place) and 2016 (second place) and the Australasian Samba Queen competition in 2016 where she won the inaugural crown. Kirstie is the first Australasian Samba Queen which qualified her to compete at the International Samba Queen competition in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in February, 2017.
Kirstie is now the Head Samba Coach at Subsdance Dance Studio leading the two top samba teams, Charmosas & Glamourosas, as well as competition coaching, student mentoring and teaching all levels of Samba.
She has taken her solo students and teams through to win competitions such as the Australian Latin Dance Championships & the Australasian Samba Queen competition.
For the past 5 years, Kirstie has taught all levels of Brazilian Samba and has immersed herself into learning Brazilian percussion, Portuguese & the depths of Brazilian culture. When learning with Kirstie you will receive more than just a dance lesson. She is passionate about teaching the origin of Samba and its evolution, uses correct Brazilian Portuguese terms for movements and how to listen to the drums.
